Brazil is one of the leaders in the export of forest products, especially pulp. Want to know more about it? Read our post.

In the last few years, the exportation of forest products has boosted the market in this sector, making Brazil one of the largest exporters in the world, especially of pulp.

The favorable climate and soil, allied with the use of modern technologies, have been effectively contributing to the productivity of pulp, the main forestry product exported.

According to the Página Rural portal, in the first quarter of 2022 both pulp production and paper manufacturing showed excellent growth compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the first three months of the year, the following were produced:

  • 5.8 million tons of pulp, an increase of 6%,

  • 2.7 million tons of paper, an increase of 4.3%.

In the same period, the sector's trade balance increased by 45.9% and exports boosted this growth.

As we have already presented, these figures boosted the trade balance based on forest products in the quarter, rising to a 45.9% growth level.

How is the export of forest products carried out?

The Brazilian pulp and paper sector has a great impact on the Brazilian economy.

The volume of exports of forest products has shown a significant increase and the trend is for the numbers to continue growing, especially the sale of pulp, which is the basic input for the manufacturing of packaging and the paper already produced.

Brazil is improving the way it produces the raw material each day in order to meet the market demand. Every day, more and more sustainable alternatives are being created to meet the demand of the domestic and foreign markets.

For this, companies use biotechnology to improve all production processes, making us a benchmark in the world market.

That is, to ensure high efficiency in Brazil, companies in the sector invest in technologies and intelligent solutions to optimize the entire production and shipping process.

Of course, the company also needs to comply with ordinances and regulations to export this type of cargo.

Most of the overall operation is performed through the port of Santos, since shipping by sea is the most common export mode used by companies.

Paraná also stands out in terms of transportation, both through the port of Paranaguá and in road transport.

What are the main destinations for these exports?

The main destination for the export of forest products, especially pulp produced in Brazil, is China.  The second largest market is Europe and the third is the United States.

The three markets represent, on average, 82% of total pulp exports.

With regard to paper, the greatest concentration of exporters is in Latin America. Latin countries are also the nations that most buy wood panels from Brazil.
